Jon Collins of Bsecure CDM was appointed to act as the Health and Safety Consultant to one of our main Horizontal Directional Drilling Contractors on the Thames Water Burst Mains Replacements IPT 7/8. Jon ensured that the contractor was compliant with SMBJV Policies and Procedures and ensured compliance through the CPP over a two-year period. Jon carried out weekly inspections of the gangs, undertook incident investigations and reported through an Active SHE system.
By ensuring that additional training was provided in cable avoidance and providing the gangs with suitable and sufficient work packs, utility strike rates dropped by over 95% in this period and when the works were extended, an additional Bsecure CDM consultant joined the team in South London. Both consultants were relied upon heavily through out the project to promote health and safety culture and influence safe systems of work.

Bsecure were asked to look at our existing policies and procedures and bring us up to date with new and current health and safety legislation. Steve and the team produced a full suite of risk assessments and method statements relating to all activities that our annual Cornish Steam and Country Fair event encompassed. They wrote new policies and procedures that we now feel have made the whole event much safer for not just the visiting public, but all those involved in the annual event. The West of England Steam Engine Society (WESES) cannot thank Bsecure enough for their professionalism and advice to help us create a much better health and safety culture that now surrounds our event.
